CHOREOGRAPHY DEVELOPMENT

Writer: faithhiles9faithhiles9

In 2019 to 2020 I was 1 of 3 choreographers in the Salford University Dance Society, which helped my teaching, creative and choreography abilities for dancers of all abilities. Styles I could choreograph and teach with included: Ballet, Jazz, Commercial, Street dance and Musical theatre.

When the social distancing and lockdown came into play, teaching and creating was pushed online which developed a new teaching strategy skill which I never have thought I would need. However, more dance teaching jobs now ask for video footage of how you would teach a class rather than attending the institution/studio for a live presentation.

Teaching online was a big learning curve for me as I bounce of the atmosphere in the class in to what strategies to project on to the students and how to engage those who aren't part taking in the class.

Hello Faith, We've reviewed your application for the role of Dance Teacher/Choreographer and are potentially interested in meeting you. As part of our process, we ask everyone before the interview stage to provide a self-tape. (Using your mobile phone for this is fine and can be done at home/anywhere suitable) The first 30 seconds should be an introduction to yourself and is your opportunity to show us your personality. You could talk about any relevant experience you have or what you might bring to the role. Secondly, we would like to see you "teaching" a short piece of musical theatre choreography to a group of 11- 16 year-olds. This can be done as if you were teaching this age range. There does not need to be any students present. The self-tape should last no longer than 2 to 3 minutes. You can upload this for free using Wetransfer.com or Dropbox. Please copy and paste the link back to us. (Please don't attach video files directly to the email as they won't come through.) The deadline for self-tapes is Wednesday 11th May at 5pm Once we have received your self-tape, we will review it and contact potential candidates regarding interview dates and times. If you need any further information, please don't hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Footlights Recruitment "
